Fast Facts About the Flag

Warhead Clothing

Our American flag has a long and heralded history. Some of the most interesting facts you can learn in the next game of trivia you play with your friends include the following:

Adopted in 1777
The United States Congress officially adopted the red, white, and blue as the American flag on June 14th, 1777. The original version displayed 13 stripes and 13 stars to represent the 13 original colonies of our nation.

Creator of the Current Pattern
The current 50-star pattern was created by a high school student named Robert G. Heft, a 17-year-old high school student in Ohio. His design is still the official lineup for the stars with five rows of six stars and four rows of five stars.

American Flags on the Moon
Our American astronauts have planted six flags on the surface of the moon. The first was planted by Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. However, it is the only one of the six that no longer stands because it was blown over by the ship as it departed. The others still stand today on the moon.
